Referencing Chiquita Banana, the Monroe Doctrine and the debt-governed banana republic through which the United States exerts influence in its “backyard,” Monroe consists on an interactive work made of bananas with a Chiquita's style portrait of James Monroe laid on the ground in the shape of the American continent. Viewers were invited to take as many bananas as they want, while the map starts to loose its shape and the bananas decompose over time.
